How Did I Win?

Ok, so I beat Maat on THF yesterday, and I have absolutely no clue how. I will have to go through and total up the numbers and all but I really have no clue how I beat him. By the shear fact that I don't think I did nearly as much damage as my other runs, I'm down right stupefied. The only thing that changed from the last fight was the Emperor's Hairpin and Leaping Boots that I borrowed from Disdain.

Let us start out with the numbers I do remember off the top of my head:
- I evaded 7 of Maat's attacks
- Blink absorbed 3 of Maat's attacks
- I Perfect Dodged 7 of Maat's attacks
- Maat gave up when I dropped him below 20%
- I DID NOT HAVE AN ICARUS WING
- I used a Vile Elixir +1
- I used an exp scroll to level up
So, those are the glaring facts of the fight that I currently have. I did also have a Vile Elixir ready for use just in case. Actually as Maat gave up I was hitting my macro to use it because I only had about 530 HP when he gave up which is AT MOST 3 hits.

The fight: 100 TP, Blink Band, Sole Sushi +1, Sneak Attack, hit for 200+, melee, hang up phone, Evisceration for about 250, hit my I Wing macro, realize I didn't have an I Wing, search satchel for I Wing, ....no I Wing, swear a lot in tells to Disdain while still meleeing, Maat PD's, I Flee to entrance, wait for him to catch up to me, flee to the back of the zone, use exp scroll, melee, Dancing Edge, Vile Elixir +1, use PD, melee and pray for my life, Maat gives up while I am hitting my Vile Elixir macro.

I know that may not be the most readable summary but until I post my screenshots that'll have to do.

The ONLY thing that I can think of is that maybe his evasion wasn't nearly as high so I was landing more melee hits because that was the first time I was able to get to 100 TP without using sleeping pots or an I Wing. By all that I can think of though is that he still should've whooped me because other fights I did a skill chain and still only got him to 28%. I'm really looking forward to going home and running the numbers for these fights.

There is one hypothesis I do have for all of these fights: Maat gets easier the more times you fight him. Again, there is no proof, nor have I fought him more than the necessary times. The only thing that makes me think this is that the more times I have fought him on all of my jobs I have always gotten him further down in health and he has done things that wouldn't do as much damage to me. For example, the first time I lost to him on DRK, he drained me for 300+ HP to finish me off, but never used it in any of my other fights. Maybe I'm totally off my rocker, but its just a thought.

T-minus 5 levels and 1 fight to go! :D

How Did I Lose?

First off I tried 2 Maat fights this weekend, one went well and the other, lets just say I don't see how someone could win this fight if I didn't.

DRK fight went well. I went in prepped and ready to rock his face. The fight only lasted about 20 seconds because I went in fully buffed, Drain 2 > Guillotine > I Wing > Vile Elixir +1 > Guillotine > Blood Weapon > 2 hits > done. Using the Vile Elixir +1 REALLY helped out because it basically doubled the damage of my 2nd Guillotine. The reason my 2 Guillotines didn't kill him right off the bat was that one of the swings of my first Guillotine missed because instead of doing almost 1300 damage like I was before I only did about 1000. That was ok though because I was prepared with extra meds to make sure I won that fight.

Now what REALLY angered me was my THF fight. I figured it would be a breeze, but boy was I wrong. Here's how the fight went SA > hit > Dancing Edge > I Wing > Dancing Edge > hit > (he 2hr'd) > Flee > Run to entrance > Vile Elixir +1 > get my ass handed to me > Perfect Dodge > Hi-potion x3 > Vile Elixir > I die with Maat having 40% health. How in hell am I supposed to beat him when I recovered probably around 1k HP and still only took him down to 40%. The ONLY explanation I can find in this is that he guarded my 2nd DE so it only did half damage. That could've been an extra 10% damage there which could've caused him to give up. One other option I have is to merit Dagger twice so I can have Evisceration at 66 and be able to do a Distortion for more damage. I may actually do that just because in the long run it may save me time from having to get ANOTHER THF Testimony. Because I'm oh so excited to have to get another one as it is.

This is the week of Maat for me. I hope to have the cap by Sunday evening. I know I've said this previously but I think I can pull away from my gf long enough this week and hopefully get a few SMN burns in to finish my RNG off. The two big problems right now are getting my THF Testimony again and then getting my RNG to 66. Here's to hoping I have a good week in FFXI.

Testimonies

This is going to be a post strictly for me venting because I got sooooo frustrated last night with the fact that I went 1/37 on stealing my THF testimony.

I had spent multiple nights trying to get it but it just wasn't letting me steal it for some reason. I started really whining about it in LS asking people if I was doing something wrong or what. Figures that as I say I'm going to bed I see a Goblin Bandit and decide to try 1 more time and boom, there it is. Now that I am only 1700 til 67 on THF I might as well get some more exp on it and get an exp scroll so I can definitely win on my first try because I DO NOT want to have to go through that again.

Pretty much the same thing was going on with DRK for a while as I went 1/2, 1/7, and this last time I went 1/5. The only difference is that I know I'm going to beat Maat this time because I'm going to wait it out and get a Vile Elixir +1 to burn so I can do 2x Souleater Guillotines on him and be done with it. I am just getting so sick of Maat fights it isn't even funny, but as everyone keeps telling me, the end is in sight.

At least now I have pretty much full proof plans laid out for both DRK and THF that should allow be to easily beat Maat down. Which means I would only have to worry about RNG, but I have a pretty much full proof plan there too that as long as Maat's 2hr doesn't kill me I should win in about 10 seconds of my first WS on him.

Final Maat's Cap goal: have the cap by next weekend. Yes I realize that gives me a lot of time but I have 8 levels on RNG that I still have to burn through and I still need to skill up my Marksmanship more. As for DRK and THF fights though as long as I get a little more exp on THF I'll be good to go and DRK just needs a Vile Elixir+1.

Triple Shot Of Maat

I didn't do much last night but I felt VERY accomplished as I whooped the old man 3 times and got a SMN burn in.

First off was NIN since I was basically geared and ready to rumble. It was night time so I figured by the time I finished gearing and getting food and getting all the way out to the Chamber of Oracles I'd be ready by the next night, and I was correct. Just as I zoned in it turned night time which worked out perfectly. I started off with the regular buffs and food, and threw in Yonin too. Then I started going at him and once his shadows were down I Retsu'd him to paralyze since I didn't have Jubaku: Ichi. Then I blinded and slow'd him with Hojo: Ichi because again I didn't own Hojo: Ni. From there on out it was pretty easy. Paralyze, slow, and blind were the 2 huge factors because I only got hit once the whole fight for about 85 damage and he never even 2hr'd. In all, fight was a cake walk and even if he did 2hr against me I had over 900 HP still so I would've just kept going and not even bothered healing myself because he was so low on HP already.

Next up was PLD because I didn't have use my 2hr or use an I Wing for NIN so I geared and went for PLD right away. For the most part I was geared for ACC and DMG and used Carbonara for extra damage. Funny story about all this was that I bought Yag drinks and an HP regen food and didn't use any of them. Basically same story as NIN, just straight tanked and Vorpal Bladed when I could and saved Sentinel for an OMG moment that never came. I did use I Wing towards the end just because I was down to about 80MP and about 600HP so I figured I wouldn't bother taking the chance and just unleashed on him. Cake fight that I suggest going DD style because he honestly wasn't hitting that hard and I was never in any real danger.

When I got back from that fight I decided to gear up for SMN since I still had my 2hr as a fall back. By the time I geared up SMN I got asked to quickly come do a SMN burn so I flew out there and got about 4 merits right quick which helped me drop another merit into Lightning Potency which is now at 4/5 and I already have 2 of the 5 ready to cap it.

Once that was done I decided SMN time to go beat Maat. Again, easy fight that as long as you just pay attention and don't lose your head you'll be fine. I could've beaten the record but I decided to go safe rather than sorry. Started with a Blink Band and Titan for Stoneskin, then whipped out Diabolos and sent him on his way. When he got there I used Netherworld Blast on Maat and then Nightmare to sleep his avatar (Titan). Once my rage timer was back up I ran to the entrance and then unsummoned and resummoned Diabolos. By the time Maat had made it to me I had already told Diabolos to attack him. Maat did 2hr at this point and his avatar was awake and within seeing distance, but was way too far out of range to make a difference. When his avatar got there I used Nightmare again and then let Diabolos do his thing. By the time my rage timer was up again Maat was already at about 40% so I Netherworld Blasted one more time and Maat gave up. Very simple fight that takes very little prep or worrying especially when you are 75. I was planning on using my Yag drinks but again just simply forgot to use them because by the time my MP was dropping below 50%, so was Maat's HP and then Blood of the Vampyre was kicking in and I was getting an extra refresh anyways.

Thus bringing me down to 8 levels on RNG and 3 Maat fights, RNG, THF, and DRK. DRK I was starting to gear up for and then saw videos of decently geared 66DRKs 2-shotting him so I think I'm going to try to take that approach. Now I just need to rethink my gear and food a little then go to town tonight. If all goes really well this weekend I'm looking at Maat's Cap Sunday night. :D

Single Digits!

First and foremost, 8 levels left on RNG and I'm done!!! This is really the kicker of the weekend because otherwise I was in a really bad mood because I missed out on my RDM AFv2 Hat and possibly BLM AFv2 Hat.

Anyways, I got a lot of SMN burning in this weekend which means much progress on merits and exp. Obviously I'm really close to Maat's Cap now and REALLY need to start concentrating on my fights. I got DRG fight done this weekend and could probably do BLM, SMN, and MNK without much problem now. That still only takes me to 10/15 fights done so I have my work cut out for me.

The highlight piece of gear I got, and Khrone actually, was Yinyang Robe. That really boosts my SMN because now I am more confident on what I can do with it. Maat should be pretty easy now because I can have over 1100 MP as an Elvaan on SMN, but will probably only be around 980 or so since my SJ gets nixed during the fight. In all that should still be pretty easy for my fight though as long as I don't get unlucky with his Astral Flow. Also in SMN news I got the Temenos item for AF+1 which will be great for AF+1 hands to give me an extra avatar perpetuation cost -1.

I'm thinking tonight if I have some free time I'll be doing my BLM and MNK Maat fights and then hopefully getting into a burn party for more merits/exp. My jobs are really coming along with these SMN burns because even when I'm not leeching exp, I'm still getting good merit points that I'm currently lacking.

No QotD here because it would be large amounts or profanity from me finding out I could've gotten RDM hat Sunday night...

Sleepy Maat

Last night was a fun night filled with just doing stuff with friends. Those are the best nights and sometimes you end up getting the most accomplished.

For starters, I got online and on a whim decided to check Shiki Weapon and wadda ya know, he's up. So I'm frantically searching for friends to help me but basically no one was on. Finally I found Mac on and he said he'd be more than happy to come as long as it was up. So we go out there and let me tell you, Mac is a beast at solo RDM. I have no clue how he does it because his macros have to be retardedly complex. Any time he casts a spell he swaps like 4 pieces of gear and then swaps back. I was there on BRD and he was on RDM/NIN and he really didn't need me at all as he took a total of 0 damage the whole fight. Sadly the robe didn't drop but we are planning on going back out there today and hopefully getting the drop so I can look like a real 75 SMN.

After that I had to bounce for a bit, but when I came back Swifman had just logged on too. He let me borrow his Apollo's Staff so I could go Repose Maat a few times and get another big W in my column. That does put me back at 500 for Maat fights, 6 losses and 6 wins, 2 losses on BRD, 2 on MNK, 1 on DRG, and 1 on BLM. I do have much better plans for MNK, BLM, and DRG though so I should be good on those. My big concerns are THF, NIN, and PLD.

So that was a quick and easy fight considering my 1st Repose landed, 2nd resisted, then 3rd and 4th landed. I took a whopping 0 damage but did get silenced once. Its a good thing I did have my Echo Drops macro'd because that saved me about 3 seconds of getting pummeled. But in reality it was an easy fight. Win time was 6min 44sec and the record was 6min 6sec so I did pretty darn good.

Once I got back from that Swifman and I were trying to find stuff to do so we did some ENMs. Hagun ENM where we both dual boxed which was fun and ended up going pretty well, but no drop. Then we headed out to Monarch Linn for 2 ENMs out there. We ended with the Fire in the Sky one that was cake because we both 2hr'd on RDM and didn't get much of a drop from there either. But we also duo'd the Uninvited Guests and that was quite interesting.

Usually you do Univited guests with a DD/NIN and a RDM. It goes pretty well most of the time but when you go in as 2xRDM/WHM it gets quite interesting. We were kiting around the whole time and nuking when possible. I figured out early on that if you kite with W Legs around the outside of the circle he won't catch you for 90% of the fight. The only big problem is locking in hate on 1 person to kite so the other person can nuke and rest without much of a problem. Because of my 5/5 ice accuracy on RDM my nukes were doing about 5% damage each time but I'm guessing Swifman's were getting resisted regularly which is why I was kiting the mob for most of the time. Swif finally was able to start pulling hate from me by cure bombing me so I could rest up to nuke the last bit down. We luckily finish after 28 minutes when we only had 30 minutes to do the fight. It was ugly but really fun at the same time.

Hopefully tonight I can get my YYR, knock out my DRG fight, and then maybe do some Limbus with Swifman if we have some extra time. I'm having fun doing all these little side things with him and Mac because they keep me interested and actually helps me towards having better gear and more gil to play with when I want to buy stuff.
